Who was the Virgin Mary? August 31, 2016
 The Virgin Mary was a godly young lady whom God chose to give birth to the Lord Jesus Christ. “And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.” Luke 1:28 “And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.” Luke 1:31 However, Mary was not God. She was a human being. Therefore she should not be prayed to or worshiped. There is NO example in the Bible of praying to Mary. “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” Matthew 4:10 “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;” Philippians 2:10 “Ye shall make you no idol nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.” – Leviticus 26:1 The Bible makes it clear that setting up or bowing down before any image (statue) is idolatry. Not all Catholics bow down before statues, but the Bible says not to even make them. Statues of Mary are idolatry. “Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of MALE OR FEMALE,” Deut 4:16 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;” 1 Timothy 2:5 “His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” John 2:5 Don’t let family traditions come before obedience to God. King Asa is an example of a godly king in the Bible who removed the idols that were passed down in his family. “And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.” 1 Kings 15:12 Praying to or worshiping Mary is just one of many unbiblical practices in the Catholic Church. The most dangerous part of being a Catholic is that they are wrong on salvation. The Bible teaches that eternal life is a free gift and can only be obtained by trusting in Jesus Christ alone. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 Here is a sermon on the Virgin Mary.
